Queer Talmud 5784

Now closed to new applicants.

The Talmud is a beautiful and subversive text at the heart of traditional Judaism.

Created by radicals who wanted to reinvent their religion, it teaches people how to think outside of binaries and assumptions.

But for years, this sacred knowledge has been kept locked up by elite straight men. We want to break it open.

Our goal is to learn Talmud in a way that centres marginalised people.

Over 10 sessions, we will study rabbinic wisdom in Taanit 11a, dealing with the question of whether we can step back while others suffer.

This course is suitable for people who know their Hebrew alphabet and want to engage in deep discussions. The point is to bring Talmud learning to everyone.

This course will be online, Sundays 7-9pm, over ten weeks. It will involve a 2-hour class each week, plus at least one hour of preparation time with your chevruta (study partner) each week. The course is £200 for the term.

Bnei Mitzvah 5784

Now closed to new applicants.

Did you not have a bar/bat/bnei mitzvah? Did you do it, but in the wrong gender?

Come and learn how to read Torah, understand Jewish practices, engage with Jewish festivals, and live a Jewish life.

At the end of this course, you will participate in a group ceremony, where you will read from Torah and give your own sermon.

If you are looking for a chance to explore Judaism on your own terms, this is the place for you. If you are worried that you are not Jewish enough, not queer enough, or not lefty enough, this is the place for you.

All of this is taught in the Queer Yeshiva style: spiritually immersive, emotionally real, and politically radical.

Previous student Elinor said: “This was the best adult education experience I have ever had. The Bat Mitzvah class has been massively important to my developing Jewish identity and practice and I am so glad to have had the opportunity to take it.”

This year, the teachers are our Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Lev; our Shliach Tzibbur, Mich Sampson; and Yael Kharroubi.

The cost is £400 total, £200 per term.
